On the way to the A diploma

When your child has reached the age of 4-5, it is important to start taking swimming lessons. Often parents want to practice with their child, but are not sure how to do it properly. That is why we have written out below; 'the road to the A diploma' as we use it in our swimming lessons:

Overview Preliminary stage

  • Take a bite of air and blow it out again with your face in the water, do this 3 times in a row. 
  • Remain submerged in the water for 10 seconds (this is allowed with the feet on the ground). 
  • Grab something from the bottom with hands and eyes open at a depth of 60 cm. 
  • Float on the stomach relaxed for 5 seconds. 
  • Rotate from stomach to back on both the latitude and longitude axis. 
  • Independently jump into the water and climb out again in shallow water. 
  • Entering in shallow water in various ways (jumping, rolling, falling backwards). 

  • Float on your back for 10 seconds. 
  • Chest and back crawl with correct leg stroke. 
  • Entering into deep water in different ways (jumping, rolling, falling backwards, diving). 
  • Jump into deep water independently and go completely under water. 
  • Swim 2 meters in your own way in deep water. 
  • Pass under a mat that is horizontally flat on the water. 
  • Swim through a hole at a depth of 90 cm. 
  • Riding a horse in deep water (getting to know weir surfaces, preparing for treading water). 
  • 5 strokes single backstroke with correct position. 

Overview Main route

  • Lower straight to the bottom, blowing out under water. 
  • Diving from the knees through the hole into deep water. 
  • Grab something from the bottom with hands and eyes open at 1.35 m depth. 
  • Float on stomach for 5 seconds, spin on back, float for 10 seconds on back. 
  • 5 meter front crawl with arms out of the water and thrust from the legs. 
  • 5 meter back crawl with arms out of the water and thrust from the legs.
  • 15m single backstroke with good position and drive. 
  • treading water for 15 seconds. 
  • A beginning breaststroke. 

  • Float relaxed on the back, ½ turn around the longitudinal axis, float relaxed on the stomach. 
  • Single strokes breaststroke, ½ turn about width axis, single strokes single backstroke. 
  • (Dive) jump into the water swim underwater through the hole that is 1.5 meters away in deep water. 
  • 5 meter front crawl. 
  • 5 meter back crawl. 
  • 25m single backstroke in the competition pool. 
  • 15 meters breaststroke.
  • treading water for 30 seconds. 

  • Dive/jump into the water, swim 3 meters under the water and through the hole. 
  • 25m breaststroke, 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke interrupted by 1x foot lowering, 25m backstroke. 
  • Push off from the side and 5 meter front crawl. 
  • Push off from the side and 5 meters back crawl. 
  • Enter the water with a jump of your choice, a few strokes of breaststroke, float on the stomach for 5 seconds, swim a few strokes, ½ turn around the long axis, float on the back for 10 seconds. 
  • Stepping water for 60 seconds with 2 turns around the longitudinal axis. 

Dressed swimming

  • Enter the water with a pencil jump.
  • treading water for 15 seconds.
  • Swim 12.5 meters with a stroke of your choice.
  • Climb out of the water independently.
